Smart Cities - Rhetoric or Reality - Building the City of Tomorrow. By 2040, the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area is projected to add 2.1 million people and 660,000 homes, for a total of 9.3 million people and 3.4 million homes. As the bay area population increases so does the pressure on cities and city services. The question is how do we prepare our cities and its people for the future? Many experts believe that we can we tackle these pressures by making cities smarter. Is this rhetoric or reality?
